Personal Narrative- Improved Writing Essay - 984 Words
My first real writing experience happened my junior year at HHS. It was the second to last day of school of my sophomore year, and I happened to be flipping through the course descriptions book, and was thinking of an English class to take next year. Well, I sat there and sat there thumbing through the pages, and finally, one particular class appealed to me. I thought, WOW, this is a class I should take! Yeah right, but I still decided to register for American Lit.anyway. Well, the school year finally ended, and I wasnââ¬â¢t too happy for next yearââ¬â¢s school year to begin. I mean, American Lit. was going to be boring with all the reading, not to mention all the writing, too. But I didnââ¬â¢t consider the writing to be a big problem,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦course to us. And letââ¬â¢s not forget about grading either, she said. I barely even heard her, though, because I was trying to sleep. Then she talked about reading, which was alright, I guess. But I was still trying to sleep and she was really making me mad. Ohhhhhhh, man am I tired, I said. And then I finally dozed off. I woke up with about twenty minutes left in class, and she was still babbling on, but this time she was babbling about writing. I thought to myself, writing will be easy, piece a cake. And before I knew it, she assigned us to read The Scarlet Letter and write a paper on a particular character of our choice. I donââ¬â¢t care, I said, the reading will be boring, but the writing will be easy. Then the bell finally rang, and I strolled out the door with the same cocky attitude I had come in with. I didnââ¬â¢t know it at that time, but I was in for a big surprise. I mean I had been taught how to write in my sophomore English class, right? Well, the rest of the day unexpectedly flew by, and I now found myself pushing the school doors open and running home to get my American Lit. assignment done. I better stop before I die, I breathed heavily as I was just about home. I ended up walking the rest of the way, and kept on thinking, man, I canââ¬â¢t wait to get this frickinââ¬â¢ assignment done. I then swung the front door open and went to my bedroom to start reading my book. It took me nearly seven hours, but I did it. Should Cloning Be Tested And Taught - 1121 Words
There are many arguments as to why cloning should be tested and experimented, for the sake of science. There are also many who oppose the idea of reproductive cloning. There are many ethical reasons as to why one must not attempt to clone, and there are reasons as to why others believe that there is no harm in cloning to benefit the world and how we live. However, the reason why I have such a passion and concern for the idea and methods of cloning is because I have seen it first-hand. I am writing this essay on this specific topic is because I have a personal connection to the process of cloning. My grandmother underwent the process of cloning implementation for organs in her body in the Philippines -- where there were no laws againstâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦She seemed to age much more quickly, developed Alzheimerââ¬â¢s, and became extremely weak. She could barely stand on her own and spent much of her day lying on the hospital bed, occasionally able to go home when she begged the doctor to sleep in her own bed. However, she was consistently sent back to the hospital in order to take more tests. My grandpa decided to take her off the medical research process immediately after noticing negative results. For the past two years, my grandmother has been recovering from this experimentation process and is not fully receptive to what people say to her. Due to this powerful attempt to use cloning of her organs, or unnatural stem cell reproduction, my grandmother almost lost her life. I do strongly believe that this method of experimentation with cloning should not be done, regardless of the situation. My grandmother was used as a test experiment, and the doctors convinced my grandfather that she was getting better and the cloning was working. However, the tests came back negative and she was only affected poorly by this process of undergoing reproductive cloning. This is a very controversial topic with the advancements made in science today. I wrote this paper in a Christian perspective, in hopes to voice my opinions and passion for this topic. Christ sacrificed his life freely out of service for us as imperfect beings. John 13:13 states ââ¬Å"You call me ââ¬ËTeacherââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËLordââ¬â¢, and rightly so, for
Peter Calabrese Essay Example For Students
Peter Calabrese Essay Economics 101Dr. MaglioneMarch 22, 2000How has your life changed since 1991? Have you noticed: an increase of material goods around your house, a new car in your driveway, or a little bit bigger gut due to eating more prime rib and filet mignon. If you have answered yes to any of these questions you are among the millions that have benefited from the economic boom. The economic boom refers to the period of economic expansion that started in March of 1991 and is still happening to this day. The following report will analyze various aspects of the economic boom including: what contributed to the boom and the areas of the economy which are positively and negatively affected. It will also review how long it is projected to last and possibilities that could send our economy into a recession or even depression. We will write a custom essay on Peter Calabrese specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The Economic Boom as previously stated refers to the period of economic expansion that started in March of 1991 and has been proceeding for the past 108 months. These 108 months have been the longest period of economic growth ever in American history. The stock market is growing faster than it ever has before. Unemployment is at an all time low and whats even more impressive is that inflation is staying down. As of February 2000 over 100,000 people were earning over a million dollars a year. It seems as though everything is contributing to the Boom. Suddenly there is an increase in entrepreneurs, these entrepreneurs create jobs for people. The stock market is reaching record heights and with unemployment at a low people have money to invest in companies. Stocks now account for 54% if household financial assets. 40 million investors have entered the market since the Boom began. The end of the cold war is another of the more important events leading to the Boom. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, America has been able to reduce its emphasis from national security to economic growth. Now instead of making wartime supplies with increased tax revenue the government can set it sites on balancing the budget. To further increase American production and sales European and Asian countries began dropping trade barriers. Finally and perhaps of most importance is the new technology. Technology is paving the way toward the future. Everything from online stock trading to car companies such as Ford ordering supplies. Online buying or e-commerce has cut cost and the time that it takes to ship a product. Free markets incorporated states that purchasers are saving anywhere from 2% to 5% by letting suppliers bid for business online Gartner group estimates that technology investments will rise from 3.5% of revenue which it is now to an average of 5.8%. The internet also allows instant analysis of goods farmers can find where they will get the highest prices for their crops, and after these crops have been delivered they can log onto the net to see how their product compares to others of the same type. Finally the net is also used to collect information from customers. This information can then be used to design a more desirable superior product. For the most part the main part of the economy that is positively affected by the Boom is technology and anyone that has anything to do with technology. From technology stocks to business that process orders online technology is making the market turn. However certain parts of the economy seem to be going belly up. Low price imports from developing countries are wiping out thousands of American jobs in the steel and textile industries. As a matter of fact even in this time of economic wealth 44 million Americans are still without health insurance. Finally the gap between poor and rich is enormous, The bottom fifth of US households receives less than 4% of the national income with the top fifth is responsible of obtaining more than half of the income. .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 , .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 .postImageUrl , .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 , .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917:hover , .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917:visited , .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917:active { border:0!important; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917:active , .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917 .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u44aef2795e0d04b1f7486372962b9917:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Chicano Arts Movement EssayHow long will the Boom last? No one can really tell for sure, but predictions can be made as to why it will either bust or continue. In a recent interview with President Clinton he states the reasons that he believes the boom will last. First the president states that the hard times American industry had been through in previous decades paved the way for business restructuring and, higher competitiveness and increased output because of new leaps and bounds in technology. Furthermore he states that groundwork laid by previous administrations for open markets allowed increased trade with foreign countries in Europe and Asia. The economy is so stron g now that it is able to absorb high price such as oil shocks. Finally when asked about questionable lending President Clinton states My observation is that even though some lending may be questionable most will contribute to the long term growth of the economyAs much as Clinton tries to provide a positive attitude for speculators there are strong reasons to believe that the boom will cease. Economists say that because this boom is driven by technology there is a higher chance that the boom will end. This is because this new technology has an initial high startup cost. When these systems are finally set up though there is a relatively low cost of operating. Once these systems are up and running business are more susceptible to fixed costs and falling revenue. Secondly the market is growing only on technology stock, while other areas are experiencing little to no growth. Most money is invested in Technology stock, so if this one part of the market fails most people who have money inv ested stand to loose these assets. Finally if the market slows and downsizing is needed 3% of workers are employed by temp services who can easily be laid off.

To Kill A Mocking Bird By Lee (510 words) Essay Example For Students
To Kill A Mocking Bird By Lee (510 words) Essay To Kill A Mocking Bird By LeeIn the classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, there are two familiesthat are textbook examples of complete opposites on the moral ladder, and in thecommunity. The Cunninghams and the Ewells have two distinctly differentreputations. The Cunninghams, although extremely poor, are highly respectedthroughout Maycomb County. The Ewells, being just as poor as the Cunninghams, are deeply despised. The Cunninghams are very respected by the citizens ofMaycomb. They take nothing, unless they can pay it back, and that is virtuallynothing. On the first day of school, the youngest of the Cunningham family,Walter, had no lunch. The new teacher didnt know the ways of Maycomb, or theCunninghams. She tried to offer Walter money to buy lunch, and could notcomprehend why he could not accept. Scout tries to explain to Ms. Caroline,Walters one of the Cunninghams, Ms. Caroline. They never took nothiinthey cant give back-no church baskets, no scrip stamps. They never took nothingoff anybody, they get along with what they have. They dont have much, but theyget along on it. Walter knew he could not pay back the quarter, so he didnot take it. On that same first day of class, Bob Ewells son Burris also had analtercation with Miss Caroline. She asked him to go home and wash his hair withlye soap, and then treat his scalp with kerosene to get rid of thecooties. Burris would have none of it. Heres how to get that job, even if youre underqualified.
Heres how to get that job, even if youre underqualified. Typical job search wisdom says you shouldnââ¬â¢t send off resumes to jobs you know you just donââ¬â¢t have the qualifications to land. But there are some circumstances, especially in tech, where a job might be just beyond your reach, but still attainable if you know how to work what you have to its full potential. Here are a few strategies to help you craft a job-seeking persona that will help you shoot beyond your experience level. After all, if youââ¬â¢re trying to break into a new field, how is it possible for you to have 3-5 years experience anyway? Try these tips instead of writing off your ideal job as a lost cause.Showcase the skills you do have. You might not tick every box they seek, but itââ¬â¢s possible that you tick some boxes with more gusto than anybody else applying. Play up what you do have, and then take the focus away from their list and make your own list- you might have skills they didnââ¬â¢t realize they needed for their open position. Make a case t hat your unique combination of skills is actually even better suited for the job, and then go on to explain how and why.Focus on your potential.Even if you donââ¬â¢t have a specific knowledge base or set of skills, show you have the desire and potential to learn whatever youââ¬â¢ll need to know. Play up your motivation and drive. Emphasize the speed of your learning curve, and explain how quickly you acquired expertise in something previously. Donââ¬â¢t just tell them youââ¬â¢ll hit the ground running and pick up what you donââ¬â¢t have on the fly. Show them how youââ¬â¢ve done this throughout your career.Fill in your gaps.Use your cover letter to provide context for whatever skills and experience you lack, and as a way of smoothing over the holes they might see in your resume. Make an upbeat, short-but-sweet case for why they ought to give your resume, despite its holes, a second look. Be honest. Youââ¬â¢re not a perfect candidate, but you might just be the per fect person for the job.Hold the recruiterââ¬â¢s hand.Donââ¬â¢t just slap down the bare facts of your skills and experience and hope whoever reads your resume is trained to read between the lines and construct your ideal candidacy for you. Connect the dots for them. Synthesize everything into one big picture for them. Make it clear- in your cover letter, on your resume, and in the interview.Stay positive. In your honesty, stay away from negative language like ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t knowâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m not qualified toâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ or ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ve never doneâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Frame things with a bit more optimism, like: ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m eager to exploreâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢d love to work onâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ etc. Be aware of what you donââ¬â¢t know and donââ¬â¢t have going for you right now, but also make it clear that you are conscious of what you lack and are eager to do what needs to be done to get up to speed. When in doubt, ask.If youââ¬â¢r e on the fence and not sure whether to throw your application into the pile, send a quick email off to the recruiter asking them to clarify what they mean by ââ¬Å"proficiency in _____.â⬠It will save both parties time and energy in the end.Give them what they donââ¬â¢t even realize they want.If you want it badly enough and have the drive and guts to go for it, youââ¬â¢re halfway there. Concentrate on showing your passion and tenacity. The rest, unless youââ¬â¢re way off the requirements mark, can usually be learned on the job with enough work behind the scenes. Show the proper level of excitement, demonstrate how close you are to being their ideal, and let them see just how hard youââ¬â¢ll work to get up to speed.

The 7 Fundamental Gemini Traits, Explained
The 7 Fundamental Gemini Traits, Explained SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Gemini traits are more varied than those of other astrological signs. While most signs have one very prominent trait (for example, Capricorns are notoriously ambitious), Geminis, those born between May 21 and June 21,can be social, talkative, and whimsical, but they can also be indecisive or nosy. Some Geminis love to be the center of attention; others love to gossip. Theyââ¬â¢re typically passionate yet easy-going beings who are always down for an adventure or intellectual conversation. If you hang out with a Gemini, only one thingââ¬â¢s certain: youââ¬â¢ll never be bored. What Do You Want to Know About Geminis? Gemini Personality Gemini Strengths Gemini Weaknesses Gemini Man Vs. Gemini Woman Personality Gemini in Love Gemini with Family and Friends Gemini in Business Gemini Compatibility Advice for Gemini Advice for Relating to a Gemini Gemini Personality: 7 Key Gemini Traits The Gemini personality is very fun, but, like everysign, Geminis have weaknesses. Their strengths are that theyââ¬â¢re adaptable, outgoing, and intelligent- there's never a dull moment with a Gemini. However, their weaknesses are that they'reindecisive, impulsive, unreliable, and nosy- be careful telling a Gemini your deepest darkest secrets. For more details on Gemini traits, check out this definitive guide to the sign. Gemini Strengths 1. Adaptable Geminis are easy-going and adjustable.Theyââ¬â¢re willing to try anything at least once, so do not play truth or dare with them, youââ¬â¢re going to lose.Theyââ¬â¢ll be happy to go along with any plan and will likely plan some fun adventures. Your craziest stories will involve your Gemini friends. Theyââ¬â¢re also very flexible and able to change on a dime.Spoiled plans wonââ¬â¢t ruin their day; theyââ¬â¢ll just think of something better to do. Make sure to enlist your Gemini friend's help planning parties since they'll often come up with the best ideas. 2. Outgoing Geminis are typically enthusiastic, social beings.Theyââ¬â¢re the life of the party - talkative, but not annoyingly chatty. They always have something interesting to say.Theyââ¬â¢re never just having a boring conversation about the weather; theyââ¬â¢re usually partaking in deep conversations about life. Geminis make great wingmen or wingwomen because they easily strike up conversations with strangers. Be careful, though, they might outshine you! 3. Intelligent The reason Geminis always have interesting things to say is thattheyââ¬â¢re highly intelligent.Theyââ¬â¢re inquisitive, so they love to learn.Youââ¬â¢ll often find Geminis with a book in their hands. (Definitely ask your Gemini friends forbook recommendations.) Theyââ¬â¢re also clever and love to partake in witty banter. So think carefully before trying to debate a Gemini; you'll probably lose. Geminis are bookworms. Gemini Weaknesses 4. Indecisive Due to their intelligence, Geminis can be overly analytical which can lead to indecisiveness. Don't ask your Gemini friends to pick a dinner spot or Netflix movie; they'll agonize for hours over what to choose. They can also be anxious or nervous about making decisions, especially big decisions like moving or changing careers.Dating Geminis can be difficult because they struggle with commitment.Iââ¬â¢ll explain this more in the Gemini in love section below. 5. Impulsive The flipside of the adaptability of Geminis is that they can be a little impulsive.Because theyââ¬â¢re so flexible, they can change their minds in a heartbeat. This traitcan lead them to make reckless decisions and can cause them to do superficial things. Geminis can be tempted to buy an expensive leather jacket for fun when theyââ¬â¢re struggling to pay their rent.If youââ¬â¢re a Gemini, be careful when wielding a credit card! Their impulsiveness can also make it hard for them to accomplish their goals.Geminis can lose focus or interest in their tasks and move on to something else. 6. Unreliable Due to their impulsiveness and inability to commit, Geminis can be flighty. If you make plans with a Gemini, beware; they might cancel on you at the last second. They arenââ¬â¢t mean-spirited; theyââ¬â¢re just a little irresponsible.Geminis try to avoid responsibility andboring activities at all cost.Donââ¬â¢t count on them to help you pack or help you move, but count them in for a fun night out. 7. Nosy The flipside of Geminis'intelligence and curiosity is that they can be nosy. Theywant to know everything about everyone. It can be excitingwhen theyencourage you to shareyour deepest secrets or when they're giving you the lowdown on everyone else, butbe careful before telling your dirty little secrets to a Gemini- you never know who they might tell them to. Geminis can sometimes act randomly. Gemini Man Vs. Gemini Woman Personality Gemini men and women share the Gemini traitsabove but exhibit them in different ways. Gemini men tend to be very outgoing, almost to a fault. Theyââ¬â¢re very enthusiastic, which makes them fun to be around, but they also want to be the center of attention, so hanging out with them at parties can get old. If you really want to get to know them, you should spend time with them one on one. Gemini men are also huge flirts, so if you're dating a Gemini man, maybe don't introduce him to your hot friends. Gemini women are very passionate about life but are very hesitant when it comes to love.Due to their intelligence and indecisiveness, Gemini women agonize about the important decisions in their life. If you're dating a Gemini woman, be patient with her; it may take her longer to commit to a serious relationship. However, Gemini women are very witty and outgoing; youââ¬â¢ll always have fun spending time with a Gemini woman. Gemini in Love As I said, Geminis are always down to try anything once, which makes them very adventurous lovers. If you're looking for the perfect fling, pick a Gemini. Theyââ¬â¢re extremely passionate and fun, which makes them exciting mates. They'll plan romantic getaways and take you on adventures. What do Advertisements Tell Young People They Should Value Essay
What do Advertisements Tell Young People They Should Value - Essay Example Advertising has been part of American life for centuries, and has certainly always had some kind of effect on the behaviour of Americans in a wide variety of ways. Throughout the past ten to twenty years, however, the amount of advertising exposure and kind of advertising has changed significantly, and may have an increased effect on American youths. It is incredibly difficult to construct a causal relationship between advertising and behaviour, something that advertisers have used to their advantage to fight regulation throughout history, from the cigarette era to today. The problems of determining causal relationships are myriad, but most simply rest on the well known idea that correlation is not causation: wearing your favorite teamââ¬â¢s jersey and them winning does not indicate any causal relationship between your jersey choice and your teamââ¬â¢s success. Furthering the complexity of this problem is the fact that advertising in fact mirrors many of the issues inherent to many forms of media, such as film and television, in, for instance, constructing unrealistic ideas of beauty. There are various interpretations of the role of advertising. The most generous would say that advertising merely influences behaviour through demonstrations of a productââ¬â¢s usefulness to its client; advertising affects behaviour merely through informing (). The least generous would say that advertising twists peopleââ¬â¢s emotions, world view, and so on, in order to manipulate them into buying a given product (). The truth is probably somewhere in between, that advertising does rely on a productââ¬â¢s abilities, but that advertising also manipulates viewers to a significant extent. That advertising affects peopleââ¬â¢s behaviour can be seen merely by the size of the industry: it is a multi-hundred billion dollar industry worldwide (Shaman, 2012), and a single thirty second spot in the Super Bowl can sell for ââ¬Å"upwards of $5 millionâ⬠(Shaman, 2012). There is no way corporations would spend this kind of money on advertising if they were not confident in its
